I'm Shailyn Cotten. But you can call me Shai.

I’m an Editor for the IGN Guides team, working exclusively on building checklists for some of your favorite game guides. I also stream two nights a week on Twitch as ohheyshai.

You can often find me playing a variety of cozy adventure games like Infinity Nikki and Stardew Valley, plus some cozy co-working! If I’m not streaming, chances are I’m working on a DnD campaign or one of my (many) cozy fantasy novel drafts.

I live in Upstate New York in a cozy old cottage with my partner Dylan and our two cats and a pup! My pronouns are she/her, and I identify as bisexual.

Fun fact: I am Hard of Hearing, and I wear hearing aids. I will always use closed captions for my stream. I also have rheumatoid arthritis, which means my bones are on fire 🔥 Sometimes I have bad pain days and need to put off stream.

Sign up for Camp Write-a-Lot by announcing your project and goals in The Bog Discord community… it’s as easy as that!

Join Twitch streams on Sundays, Wednesdays, and Fridays throughout August to participate in writing sprints, or swing by the Discord forums to look for help overcoming writer’s block.

Here’s what you need to do to get started:

• Follow ohheyshai on Twitch to get live notifications for writing streams

• Join The Bog Discord community to announce your camp enrollment

• Pick a writing project

  • This can be anything! A novel, screenplay, short story collection, you name it. We even have a cabin for readers and crafters who want to participate but don’t have a writing goal in mind

• Choose your cabin

  • Pick between four cabins which align with your summer writing goals!

• Commit to a goal

  • Decide what you want to accomplish this August, whether that’s a word count total, hours spent revising, or crafts completed.

Wait… what are badges??

Every good camper loves collecting things. During Camp Write-a-Lot, you can collect badges by achieving milestones and participating in camp events!

These are virtual badges that are unlocked via an honor system. Once you’ve hit a new milestone (such as overcoming writer’s block or making a mood board), check out the Camp Write-a-Lot Badges template on Canva and add any new stickers to your badge sheet.

Pack your bags, camper! It’s time for a summer writing adventure!

Camp Write-a-Lot is a month-long virtual writing event hosted by ohheyshai on Twitch and Discord. From August 1st to August 31st, a community of first-time and experienced writers will get together to achieve their goals and make their dreams of writing a book come true.

what to expect

Join Twitch streams and Discord hangouts during the month of August to participate in writing sprints and find a community of writers just like you.

What is a writing sprint?

A writing sprint is a set period of focused work time followed by a set interval of rest (such as the Pomodoro Technique). For example, you set a timer for 25 minutes and focus on only writing during that time. Then, after time is up, you start a 5-minute break. That’s one sprint! Rinse and repeat, and you have a writing sprint.

Coworking and productivity hangouts

Join coworking Twitch streams on Sundays and Wednesdays throughout August, or join the “writing-sprints” voice channel in The Bog Discord community to team up with fellow campers for some focused writing time.

During coworking streams, the streamer remains muted, or the voice chat silenced so that everyone can focus on getting their work done. Once the sprint is up, it’s time to yap!

Every Friday of August, the community gets together to play games and hang out. There are even some competitions which you can snag you extra badges.
